GRASS FIRES ARE ERUPTING AROUND THE COUNTY
SInce early this morning Montgomery County firefighters have been responding to several grass fires in the county. At 11:30 this morning Caney Creek responded to a reported grass fire on Firetower Raod near Tommy Smith. When they arrived on the scene they found the homeowner had an illegal burn going. The winds picked up and carried it to the grass. Even with all the rains of Wednesday flames were spreading fast along the top of the grass which had already dried out. Crews were able to stop it before it got into a wooded area.
The fire marshal was notified when they discovered paint cans, carpet, building material combined with leaves and tree limbs.
The resident told firefighters one of the aerosol cans exploded throwing a long flame into the grass.
With wind conditions picking up and humidity dropping it will not be long until fires will be able to quickly spread.
With the burn ban off you allowed to burn tree limbs, leaves and natural vegetation in moderation. A small fire, one that can be easily handled with a garden hose should winds come up or the fire spreads. Also have a charged garden hose next to the fire and remain watching it until it is out. All it takes is one spark.
AT 2:15 P.M. IN THE GRANGERLAND AREA
WINDS WERE OUT OF THE WEST
TEMPERATURES WERE AT 66
HUMIDITY WAS DROPPING AND WAS AT 27%
