dwi suspect runs from trooper

Just after 9 pm a DPS trooper attempted to stop a Chevrolet pickup southbound on Interstate 45 in the Conroe city limits. The vehicle slowed down but did not stop and finally turned into the IHOP parking lot on I-45 near the South Loop. As the trooper approached he fled into the woods. Conroe police and additional troopers arrived on the scene and started searching the wooded area around Conroe Regional Hospital. A search was done for over an hour but they came up empty handed.

The manager at IHOP had seen the suspect run from the trooper and watched as the search was being conducted from the restaurant parking lot. 

Just before 3 a.m. the same trooper was dispatched to an accident and was southbound on the feeder road just north of the South Loop. That is when he saw the suspect from earlier run across from the Shell station at the Intersection of I-45 and the South Loop.

The trooper exited his vehicle and started a foot pursuit into the Kroger parking lot. At the same time the IHOP manager was getting off work and driving through the Kroger parking lot. He too spotted the suspect and then saw the trooper running after him. Using his black Pontiac he attempted to cut the suspect off on the east side of the parking lot but failed. Seeing the trooper still after him he decided to make a second attempt to stop the suspect. Cutting around the parking lot he ran in front of the suspect with his vehicle. The suspect to busy looking behind at the trooper chasing after him did not see the car and ran into it rolling up over it and sliding off onto the ground leaving a full hand print on the windshield of the vehicle.

It was then the trooper was able to cuff him.

MCHD was dispatched to the scene as the suspect who had been barefoot and cut his foot also injured his shoulder in the collision.

The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Vicente Rios of 13503 N. Thorntree in Houston. He now resides in the Montgomery County Jail on several charges including DWI, evading arrest. He is also being held by ICE on an Immigration charge.
