FIRE FIGHTERS MISS FOOTBALL GAME DUE TO FOREST FIRE
Porter firefighters tried to watch the Texans game Sunday afternoon, but as so often happens, they were interrupted a short time into the game with a report of a forest fire on Village Way off of FM1314. When the first unit arrived they found heavy fire in the woods, which was very slow moving.
Several homes bordered the area of the approximately 8 acre fire. Porter firefighters called for additional apparatuses from their department, New Caney and Splendora Fire Departments, along with a bulldozer from the Texas Forest Service.
The Texas Forest Service bulldozer cut a line completely around the fire as hand crews cleared the edges. There was no damage to homes. However, residents can expect smoke in the area for the next few days as the fire burns itself out.
The good news – the fire was brought under control. The bad news – they wrapped up the scene just as the Texans game ended. (The Texans won, by the way!)
