MAN DRAGS HOOVES OFF DONKEY
Precinct 4 Deputy Constable Dwayne Morrow arrested a Splendora man Thursday evening for dragging a friend’s donkey behind his SUV with a rope and leaving it severely injured on the roadside.
Marc Richard Saunders, 30, of Splendora is charged with state jail felony Animal Cruelty.
Saunders went to visit a friend in New Caney around lunchtime and arrived around the time someone called saying they found the family’s pet donkey around the corner. Another friend of the family was already on location and the pair went to where “Suzy Q” was tied to a post on Pine Street. The other man planned to walk the donkey home, but Saunders insisted on tying the donkey to his trailer hitch, saying he would drive slowly. The second man sat on the open tailgate of the SUV as they headed home. At first, the man said Saunders drove slowly and Suzy Q cooperated. However, he sped up a little and the donkey sat down, stiffening her front legs to try and stop. The man on the tailgate said he yelled and pleaded with Saunders to stop, but Saunders sped up a bit more and the donkey fell over. The man continued to yell and try to stop Saunders who drove approximately 10 to 15 feet more before stopping. Saunders walked to the rear of the vehicle and saw the bloody donkey, whose hooves were ground 1.5 to 2 inches, exposing flesh and bone. He unhooked the rope and fled.
Someone later reported seeing the donkey on the side of the road, believing she was struck by a vehicle. Deputy Morrow’s investigation soon revealed the truth and he found Saunders and took him into custody.
A veterinarian went to the scene and treated the injured donkey that was dragged home on a makeshift sled, unable to walk. The vet could not immediately say whether she would recover from the injuries.

That is just horrible that person doesn’t even deserve to be called a man… should have the same thing done to him… prayers for Suzy Q and her family hope she is able to recover for this!

And did anyone notify us? We can’t be everywhere all the time and we don’t have access to every police report filed in the entire county. We could call the agency that took the report or even file an open records request, but we’d have to know about it first. We’re not law enforcement. We’re news media. We listen to scanners and we get tips, then people gripe when we miss something we couldn’t have known about. We’re against all animal cruelty, but we can’t report on it if we don’t know about it.

It never ceases to amaze me how cruel people can be to animals. What was this idiot thinking? It makes me sick to know what he has done to this poor animal. I wish they would throw him in jail and throw away the key. Better yet, drag him behind a vehicle until his and bones are exposed and leave him on the side of the road in pain. He is one person, I wish that chlorine would have gotten into his gene pool. What did his friend say about mutalating his donkey?? Where was the guy that was on the back of the truck after he stopped? Very sad..praying for the little donkey!!
I sure hope the judge that hears this case doesn’t let this guy plea it down to a misdemeanor. That felony needs to stick.
This and every story of cruelty to animals or those who are defenseless from their abuser is so disturbing. This was not done by a human being. Appearing as a man is an evil creature who has probably harmed other animals and people before. And who will do it again. How can citizens like me support the system to punish this individual? I want to know who to vote for that supports prison time or even the death penalty for those who do such horrid things to animals. This was his “friends” pet? What kind of friend is he? I want to know how they feel and where was the guy on the tailgate watching this? Why didn’t he call the police? My foot would have been through that guys window and in the back of his head it I was in that truck watching such cruelty! Please tell us if Susie Q makes it-Tell us what the outcome will be for Saunders-Tell us how we can help put him away. I already know how to tie him up and drag him behind a truck, which is really what he deserves,but then,I’d be like him….

wonder-did Susie Q live? If she dies, is his punishment more severe? Come on Texas A&M-We have the best-Let us show it! But if she dies, will it be worse for him? I feel for his Mom and Dad-but, He needs to hang-skip the injection…Bring hanging back-Bring Crimes like this down!!!!
