It was at that point dispatchers notified rescue boats enroute that the person was out of the water and weren’t going to wait for rescue personal to arrive on the scene,. They then left the area.

Moments later a boat crash was dispatched but there were no injuries and minor damage to the vessels near shore.

At 5:15 p.m. Cleveland Fire Department was dispatched to County Road 3747 in the Southern Crossing Subdivision. It was reported a thirteen-year old female was pulled from the community lake and CPR was being performed.

When Cleveland EMS, DPS and Liberty County units arrived the child was not responsive. Crews worked for over twenty minutes before they were able to revive her. She was transported to Kingwood Hospital in critical condition.

Deputies are questioning the grandfather who was on the scene and had taken responsibility to watch after her at the lake.

SOTX athletes, law enforcement officers from across the state and supporters of the movement attended the annual Statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run Kickoff this morning at the Capitol.  The kickoff is a prelude to Summer Games, set for May 23-26, in Arlington.  More than 3,000 SOTX athletes will compete in soccer, cycling, gymnastics, basketball, athletics and tennis events during the four-day competition.  At this morning’s event, members of several law enforcement agencies ran side by side from the Capitol through downtown Austin after the ceremonious lighting of the torch.  Once the torch passes through each of SOTX’s 19 areas, the Summer Games will officially begin!

An escort truck was traveling in front of each of the two big rigs and had signaled oncoming motorists to the shoulder as the load passed.

As the escort truck moved forward, Fleming got back onto the roadway and went into the left turn lane for Oak Grove. That is when she slammed into the enormous load, killing her instantly.

Fleming’s 9-year-old daughter and two sons, ages 12 and 15, were transported to the hospital where they were treated and released. Two other females, ages 10 and 14, were also injured in the Expedition.

A Toyota pickup driven by 53-year-old Urbano Gomez was struck by the Expedition after the initial crash. Gomez was transported to Kingwood Hospital in stable condition.

RFPD CHIEF STEPHEN CARLISLE

ROMAN FOREST – Around 3 p.m. Friday, Officer J. Sieman and Sgt. Jasonis investigated a Criminal Trespass of a Habitation call on Chariot Lane in Roman Forest. A suspect was arrested and charges are being filed on other suspects.

CHARLES ALVIS

After an investigation, Officers found 3 suspects in the residence, 34-year-old Charles Alvis, and two women. Alvis told investigating officers he and his girlfriend, 28-year-old Sheina Quaid, who was not on location, had been squatting at the residence without the owner’s knowledge or consent since March, but that squatting was legal.

Officers transported Alvis to the Police station and met the other suspect, Sheina Quaid, who claimed to work for a real estate law advising firm, and demanded that Alvis be released. According to Quaid, police had no legal right to hold Alvis. He and Quaid both admitted they knew that living in the residence without consent was wrong but they had no choice; either live there or on the street.

Charles Alvis has an extensive felony criminal history. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges of Criminal Trespassing of a Habitation.

Roman Forest Police Chief Stephen Carlisle said his agency will not tolerate such behavior.

“It is not right for someone to break into an unoccupied house and take possession of that house without consent,” Chief Carlisle said. “I will not allow criminals to enter into homes illegally and claim the urban myth of squatters’ rights to get away with this crime.”

“It is a crime, no matter how you look at it, to break into a home without consent to live there,” he said. “This is no different than someone getting into a vehicle at a car lot and driving away, claiming they now own the vehicle.”

Last year in Liberty County, squatters illegally lived in a soldier’s home while the soldier was deployed in Iraq. The squatters even had a yard sale to sell the soldiers belongings.

LIBERTY COUNTY – Acting quickly on information received on Thursday, May 23, Liberty County Sheriff Investigator, Sgt. Joel Davila and Sgt. Michelle Deshotel arrested 22-year-old Latondra Natrell Brown, of Ames, around 5:50 a.m. Friday as she reported to work as a Correctional Officer for the Community Education Center ( CEC) at the Liberty County Jail.

Brown has been employed as an Correctional Officer for about a year.

Sgt. Davila filed three separate third-degree felony charges against Brown for allegedly providing tobacco, marijuana and dangerous Drugs to inmates of the County jail.

As of Friday evening, Brown was in the Liberty County jail and no bond had been set.

Sgt. Davila states that the investigation is continuing to determine if there are others involved. Brown is cooperating with the investigation.
